Now for the BOOKS!

If you made it to my second post, then hey! thank you so much!

While I have a few reviews ready to go, on this fine Monday I'd like to first introduce you to some books that I'm really looking forward to! Most of these are hitting the shelves in the next few months and one or two are already out there (I just haven't been able to keep up on my reading pile … whoops!)

We shall call these posts:  Motley Mondays!

First up of our motley crew is (drum roll please…)

Expected publication: July 8, 2014    (WHY?!?!)

A retelling of Tarzan, Wild is sure to be a hit! Here's the summary:
The forest is full of secrets, and no one understands that better than Cade. Foraging, hunting, surviving— that’s all he knows. Alone for years, Cade believes he’s the sole survivor. At least, until he catches a glimpse of a beautiful stranger…

Dara expected to find natural wonders when she set off for a spring break camping trip. Instead, she discovers a primitive boy— he’s stealthy and handsome and he might be following her. Intrigued, Dara seeks him out and sets a catastrophe in motion.

Thrust back into society, Cade struggles with the realization that the life he knew was a lie. But he’s not the only one. Trying to explain life in a normal town leaves Dara questioning it.

As the media swarm and the police close in, Dara and Cade risk everything to get closer. But will the truth about Cade’s past tear them apart?

Ooohh! Sounds fantastic, right?!

Next up we have:

The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski

It's so pretty! This one's expected publication is set for March 4th, 2014

Summary:
Winning what you want may cost you everything you love     As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions. One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin. But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Annnnnnd! What's really nice is for kindle readers (or kindle app readers like me) the first five chapters are available on Amazon for free!! That's right, get a jump start now on this novel and you won't be disappointed. I've already got mine and wow, I cannot wait!

Okay, this one came out last month but I am still really, really excited!

Control by Lydia Kang

Expected publication: Already published, so grab your copy soon!

For fans of the Uglies series (one of my favorites)! Who could honestly resist?

The summary to end all summaries! (Okay, I may have exaggerated - just a smidge):
When a crash kills their father and leaves them orphaned, Zel knows she needs to protect her sister, Dyl. But before Zel has a plan, Dyl is taken by strangers using bizarre sensory weapons, and Zel finds herself in a safe house for teens who aren’t like any she’s ever seen before—teens who shouldn't even exist. Using broken-down technology, her new friends’ peculiar gifts, and her own grit, Zel must find a way to get her sister back from the kidnappers who think a powerful secret is encoded in Dyl’s DNA.

A spiraling, intense, romantic story set in 2150—in a world of automatic cars, nightclubs with auditory ecstasy drugs, and guys with four arms—this is about the human genetic “mistakes” that society wants to forget, and the way that outcasts can turn out to be heroes.

If that doesn't like an awesome story, then I'm not sure where your head is at. (No, no it is not in the game, don't even think of singing that song. I will find you and I will - okay, no I won't kill you, but I will do something drastic. Like sing "99 bottles of beer on the wall" to the very end. Take that!)

On to number four!

The Taking by Kimberly Derting

Expected publication: April 29, 2014

Here's the summary:

A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing.

When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day.

Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.

Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own?

Two words come to mind here. Alien. Abduction. Okay, two more words. Creepy! Amazing! I honestly don't know if it is aliens, but my money's on the table. By the way, I'm not sure if anyone is clicking on the links that accompany the title and author of these fantastic, eagerly anticipated reads but make sure to click on this one! Right now goodreads, a fantastic website all about books, is hosting a giveaway - 10 lucky winners will receive a free copy! Giveaway ends in March, so there is plenty of time to enter. While you're there, add me as a friend!

Last but certainly just as anticipated, I give you:

After the End by Amy Plum

Expected publication: May 6, 2014

If you've read Die for Me, (and you should!!), then you should recognize this author. This time we're on a journey to the past. (Yes, you can sing that one - if you don't recognize it, watch Anastasia. Incredibly inaccurate, but super catchy songs!) Back to the book, yes, journey to the past but we are in the future. Summary coming up!

She’s searching for answers to her past. They’re hunting her to save their future.

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

This should prove interesting! From the summary, it looks like this will be a fast-paced novel. My favorite type!

So that's it for my first Motley Monday! Let me know your thoughts on these fantastic titles. What are some of your most anticipated reads for 2014?
